3/8: Carson Gets His State Title; Miele, Broderick, and Casaletto Place
After coming just one win short in his sophomore and junior years, Glenn Carson got one more crack at winning an elusive state championship. Determined to come through in his final attempt, Carson outlasted Highland's Joey Grisko, 3-1, in the 215-pound final of the 2009 NJSIAA Tournament to win the state championship.
For Carson, the opportunity at winning his first state title almost ended in the semifinals. Wrestling against a very conservative Bob Grogan of Delbarton, Carson held a 1-0 lead in the 3rd period. Despite Grogan making little effort to even attempt to try to work to his base, it was Carson who was twice hit for stalling by the official that sent the match into overtime. After a scoreless opening minute, Carson selected won and quickly escaped to take a 2-1 lead. In the 2nd 30-second overtime session, Grogan selected bottom. Carson decided to give Grogan the free point to knot the match at two and quickly recorded the winning takedown to punch his ticket to the finals.
The title for Carson caps an amazing career. Carson's final high school record stands at (trying to clarify record). He was a 4-time District 24 champion, a 3-time Region champion, a 2-time State runner-up, and the 2009 champion. The title also appears to be bringing an end to Carson's wrestling career entirely as he has received a scholarship to attend and play football at Penn State University next fall. Congratulations to Glenn and best of luck.
A pair of other Southern seniors also claimed medals on Sunday. Frank Miele placed 3rd in the 152 pound weight class, while Brian Broderick was the 3rd place finisher at 160. Like Carson, Miele and Broderick have been key parts of the Southern lineup over the last four seasons.
Miele finishes his career with 103 career victories and four District 24 medals, including the 1st place medal in 2009.
Broderick winds up with 115 career wins and like Carson, he was a 4-time District 24 champion for the Rams and he also was a 2-time Region placer.
Kyle Casaletto also reached the podium for Southern. The sophomore finished in 8th place at 103 pounds to finish up at 20-5 for the year.

2/21: Southern Crowns 4 Champs, Wins 8th Straight District Team Title
Kyle Casaletto avenged an early season loss to TR North's Kyle McNulty by defeating him 6-4 to win the 103-pound weight class at the District 24 Tournament. The victory for Casaletto also avenged a 2-1 defeat handed to him by McNulty in last season's District final.
Brian Broderick and Glenn Carson each became four-time District champions with their victories on Saturday. Broderick decisioned Toms River East's Anthony Sherman 7-2 in the 160-pound final while Carson pinned Lakewood's Dave Jusino in 55 seconds in the 215-pound final.
Frank Miele was the other District champion for the Rams, Miele defeated Toms River East's Justin Molzon in the 152-pound final by a score of 5-1.
With their championship performances, Casaletto, Miele, Broderick, and Carson will all receive byes into Friday night's Region 6 quarterfinals.
The Rams had seven other medal winners on Saturday that will now move on to Tuesday night's opening round of Regions.

3/8: Carson Gets His State Title; Miele, Broderick, and Casaletto Place
After coming just one win short in his sophomore and junior years, Glenn Carson got one more crack at winning an elusive state championship. Determined to come through in his final attempt, Carson outlasted Highland's Joey Grisko, 3-1, in the 215-pound final of the 2009 NJSIAA Tournament to win the state championship.
For Carson, the opportunity at winning his first state title almost ended in the semifinals. Wrestling against a very conservative Bob Grogan of Delbarton, Carson held a 1-0 lead in the 3rd period. Despite Grogan making little effort to even attempt to try to work to his base, it was Carson who was twice hit for stalling by the official that sent the match into overtime. After a scoreless opening minute, Carson selected won and quickly escaped to take a 2-1 lead. In the 2nd 30-second overtime session, Grogan selected bottom. Carson decided to give Grogan the free point to knot the match at two and quickly recorded the winning takedown to punch his ticket to the finals.
The title for Carson caps an amazing career. Carson's final high school record stands at (trying to clarify record). He was a 4-time District 24 champion, a 3-time Region champion, a 2-time State runner-up, and the 2009 champion. The title also appears to be bringing an end to Carson's wrestling career entirely as he has received a scholarship to attend and play football at Penn State University next fall. Congratulations to Glenn and best of luck.
A pair of other Southern seniors also claimed medals on Sunday. Frank Miele placed 3rd in the 152 pound weight class, while Brian Broderick was the 3rd place finisher at 160. Like Carson, Miele and Broderick have been key parts of the Southern lineup over the last four seasons.
Miele finishes his career with 103 career victories and four District 24 medals, including the 1st place medal in 2009.
Broderick winds up with 115 career wins and like Carson, he was a 4-time District 24 champion for the Rams and he also was a 2-time Region placer.
Kyle Casaletto also reached the podium for Southern. The sophomore finished in 8th place at 103 pounds to finish up at 20-5 for the year.

2/21: Southern Crowns 4 Champs, Wins 8th Straight District Team Title
Kyle Casaletto avenged an early season loss to TR North's Kyle McNulty by defeating him 6-4 to win the 103-pound weight class at the District 24 Tournament. The victory for Casaletto also avenged a 2-1 defeat handed to him by McNulty in last season's District final.
Brian Broderick and Glenn Carson each became four-time District champions with their victories on Saturday. Broderick decisioned Toms River East's Anthony Sherman 7-2 in the 160-pound final while Carson pinned Lakewood's Dave Jusino in 55 seconds in the 215-pound final.
Frank Miele was the other District champion for the Rams, Miele defeated Toms River East's Justin Molzon in the 152-pound final by a score of 5-1.
With their championship performances, Casaletto, Miele, Broderick, and Carson will all receive byes into Friday night's Region 6 quarterfinals.
The Rams had seven other medal winners on Saturday that will now move on to Tuesday night's opening round of Regions.
